Five Breathtaking Wellness Escapes in Central America & the Caribbean (Plus 1 Bonus)

Warm salt air moves through an open-air room. Palm fronds catch the first light. The waves set the pace before anyone has said a word. Central America and the Caribbean have built an entire vocabulary of wellness escapes around that feeling, each one choosing a different coastline, a different shade of green, a different way of bringing a body back into its breath. These five hold their own geography, each built around a specific landscape and grounded in yoga practice, and designed for deep restoration.

  1. Sansara Resort, Cambutal, Panama (Best for Eco-Luxury)

Cambutal sits on Panama's Pacific coast in the Azuero Peninsula, several hours past the point where most travelers turn back toward Panama City, and Sansara uses that distance as its whole pitch. The resort is built directly on the coastline with eco-friendly construction throughout, and the yoga program runs across levels rather than assuming everyone arrives as a Vinyasa veteran. It is the newer name on this list, and the one likeliest to still feel undiscovered five years from now.

Best Time to Visit: December to April for sunny beach days, or May to November for bigger surf and lush green landscapes.

  1. Nayara Springs, Arenal, Costa Rica (Best for Spa & Wellness)

Nayara Springs is adults-only, thirty-five villas deep, and built into the rainforest at the base of Arenal volcano, with a private hot-spring-fed plunge pool at every villa. Complimentary yoga runs each morning in an open-air pavilion facing the volcano, folded into a program that also includes an oversized lap pool, a spa built around the property's mineral springs, and dinner at any of four restaurants. It has held a Forbes Five-Star rating and a spot on the Condé Nast Traveler Gold List, which makes it the pick for a traveler who wants the practice woven into an otherwise five-star stay rather than the whole reason for the trip.

Best Time to Visit: December to April (dry season), though May to July offers quieter crowds and stunning afternoon rain.

  1. COMO Shambhala at Parrot Cay, Turks and Caicos (Best for Spa & Wellness)

This is the retreat for someone who wants yoga folded into a five-star stay rather than built around one. The wellness center sits across the island from the villas and suites, with a light-filled yoga pavilion facing the North Caicos Channel and an Asian-inspired spa program running alongside it. Como Shambhala treats the practice as one instrument in a larger toolkit that includes Ayurveda-informed treatments and its own nutrition-forward cuisine, which makes Parrot Cay the choice for a traveler who wants restoration without renouncing luxury.

Best Time to Visit: December to April for perfect 80°F days and calm waters.

  1. Dorado Beach, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, Puerto Rico (Best for Luxury & Golf)

Tropical outdoor spa bath with a stone tub, rolled towels, lush palms, and a modern villa in the background.
Natural stone, open-air baths, and total serenity. Spa Botánico at Dorado Beach, Puerto Rico. Photo provided by property partner.

Built on the former Rockefeller estate on Puerto Rico's north coast, Dorado Beach is one of only two Ritz-Carlton Reserve properties in the Americas, a designation the brand uses sparingly. Yoga here takes several forms, from outdoor flows to paddleboard yoga on the water, all folded into a resort anchored by Spa Botánico, a Forbes Five-Star-rated spa spread across five acres of former pineapple field. It's the choice for a traveler who wants five-star infrastructure, golf and watersports included, with yoga as one well-executed piece of a much larger program rather than the headline.

Best Time to Visit: Mid-December through April, avoiding peak hurricane season (late August to October).

  1. Jungle Bay, Soufrière, Dominica (Best for Hiking & Nature)

Tucked into the canopy above the Caribbean Sea. Jungle Bay, Soufrière, Dominica. Photo provided by property partner.

Jungle Bay sits on Dominica's southwest coast above the fishing village of Soufrière, on cliffside terrain overlooking the Soufrière-Scotts Head Marine Reserve, and holds one of the largest yoga programs in the Caribbean: two 2,500-square-foot studios with sea views, running daily classes alongside a Bamboo Spa with fourteen private treatment suites. Dominica trades the manicured beach resorts of its neighbors for actual wilderness, waterfalls, hot springs, and hiking trails threaded through rainforest, and Jungle Bay was built to put guests directly into that terrain rather than around it. It's the pick for a traveler who wants their yoga practice bracketed by real hikes rather than a spa menu.

Best Time to Visit: January to May when hiking trails are dry and waterfall conditions are ideal.

Bonus: Xinalani, Quimixto, Mexico (Best Quick Getaway)

Group lies on orange mats for beach yoga/relaxation, with an instructor kneeling nearby beside the water.
Ocean breeze, warm sand, and uninterrupted flow. Xinalani, Quimixto, Mexico. Photo provided by property partner.

If all five of the above still feel like a long-haul commitment, Xinalani sits on the Mexican Pacific coast near Puerto Vallarta, reachable by a short flight and then a forty-five-minute boat ride rather than a full day of travel (for those of us on the West Coast). The resort is built into a hillside above a private cove, off-grid, with six yoga studios spread across the property facing different angles of jungle and sea. I stayed at Mixto, its smaller six-room sister villa next door on the same beach, with full run of Xinalani's spa, hot yoga studio, and infinity pool, and came home still thinking about the walk up from the dock. It's the retreat on this list you could plausibly book for next month rather than next year.

Best Time to Visit: November to May for sunny, warm weather and humpback whale watching in the bay.
